Self-publishing no longer has the stigma attached to it that it once did. In the old days, if someone couldn't get published, he might order 500 copies of his book printed up, store them in his garage, and, if he gets any orders, package them up and ship them off. It reeked of failure.... you aren't good enough to be picked up by a reputable publisher, so you have to resort to this! Doing it on your own! I say balderdash! (and I never say that, believe me!). Why do you, as an author, have to write letters, send off sample chapters, wait year upon year for someone in her ivory tower decides to 'approve' your literary masterpiece? Why is her opinion more valid than yours, anyway? Most of my clients today use Kindle Publishing (and I am not just saying that because I own stock in Amazon!). The writers themselves are the ones who decide when their book is good enough. They call the shots..... and best of all, for hard copies, they print on demand; they only print it up when they get an order. No printing up boxes of books in the hopes that someone will buy them all someday. The publishing companies do not know better than you do if your work has value.
